Why are slat resonators usually horizontal?

Given that many corner mounted bass traps are much taller than wide, wouldn't it be quicker to make your varying slat width broad band resonators (e.g., http://www.locall.aunz.com/~johnsay/HR/index1.htm) with the slats running vertically? You'd still have the same slat widths, etc... but you'd end up cutting and affixing a lot fewer slats. Same lumber, I know, but more time left over to actually make music (a distant goal of mine).

Any thoughts?

Interesting observation................I would imagine it's just aesthetics. If you look at the pics of Left Bank Studio (Studios Under Construction site), John designed, you will see the slats are actually tapered so they radiate out from an imaginary centre point, so very few are either horizontal or vertical.

OK, so this bring up another related question: Is there a rule of thumb for the width of an HR (assuming it is horizontal... sorry Todzilla ? Do they need to cover wall to wall, floor to ceiling like so many that I see?

Todzilla - they can be at any angle you like, In Guruland I've made them vertical and horizontal.
