Who's using a Mac?

I just ordered a G5.
Looking for info and opinions on anything "music recording" as it relates to macs, specifically G5.
HOw is Garageband?
Also, I now have to have my Delta 66 upgraded for use in a PCI-X slot in my new G5. How long will that take?

Congrats...its a kick ass machine.
But is there really a difference in the PCI slot ?
I wouldn't think so.

Yes, there is a difference. The old PCI card runs at 5 volts. The new PCI-X runs at 3.3 volts. I called M-Audio and they told me to send it back for a free upgrade so I can use it in my G5.

1. Cool. Hope it's significantly faster than a dual processor g4 for the cheese you had to spend for it.

2. Like what? Software? Hardware? Vaporware? What do you want to do with your machine?

3. (currently) Looks like a toy that'll eventually run better than everything on macs, neck-and-neck with Logic. Depending on the functionality implemented, it could be a way cool looper/multitracker. Operates a lot like Acid.

Still, I can't believe you got a g5 for music & you're considering using Garageband for anything other than hooking up noisetracks for iMovie productions. In addition, a lot of what I've read says that the software is far too problematic to use for anything serious at all. maybe some issues with core audio or something. G5s rumored to have issues with graphics redraw & cpu usage.

I imagine the kinks will continue to be ironed out, but I wouldn't trust it as my main app anytime soon.
