im looking at the allen heath and brennal cmc 24 mk1 16 channel mixer w/ 8 bus 6 aux send 1/4 inch and xlr inputs on every channel. BUT only rca outputs for every channel,, :( is that not good for 900 bucks? Do the rca jacks dilute the sound quality of all our anolog effects and preamps and phantom powered mics? does it not matter that all of t he outputs are rca going into a 1/4 inch motu 828 input. im woried that im trying to fit an elephant through a mousehole instead of fitting an elephant through a 1/4 inch jack that im posative can handle it with a standard grace.

what to do?

RCA jacks are unbalanced. XLR and "TRS" phone jacks are balanced. In a nutshell the difference is that unbalanced connectors are susceptable to external electronic noise being introduced from flourescent lighting, dimmers, fridges, drills, cranky coffee pots, power cords being too close, etc. Doesn't mean you WILL have hum, but you are more susceptable to it. Keeping the RCA patch cords as short as possible and routed away from wall warts, appliances, computer monitors, 10/100 switches and power cords can all help keep the noise down.

The Motu 828 I believe has TRS, balanced connectors, so you're going to need adaptor cables to convert from one to the other. Keep 'em short.

While I'm a big Allen and Heath fan, I'm not familar with that specific mixer to answer further.... but I hope I helped.

What frederic said was absolutely correct,..i'm just trying to figure out,...why you would ge that mixer.

I'm gonna do some searching for this mixer,...see what i can find out. Only rca outs??? What the.,.???
