So how is service pack 2 working out for everyone? It's been a while since I've read anything here about it.

I finally got my SP2 disc in the mail from Bill, and haven't messed much with my puter since I installed it last night. Does it only "upgrade" the XP firewall? My AV popped up and asked which I wanted for default, I chose my current AV/firewall as opposed to Bills...

What can I expect? Will N-track crash and burn? Will Audition/soundforge 5.0 freeze up...?

Experiences, complaints, compliments, wisdom, and rants very much appreciated...

Thanx.

Cant tell you about recording stuff because i use win2k.

But on my regular home computer i installed it after making a backup of my hard drive.....that took like 50 cd's (they need better compression for PORN DAMNIT!)

The only thing i noticed that i had to update was nero 6...it was free...luckily.

Otherwise i havnt seen any bad things.

I installed SP2 on both my XP machines last month with ZERO problems. My recording computer (Adobe Audition) has continued to run like a train and there are no issues with the one I use for graphics.

SP2 seems to have enabled auto-update in services, though it appears not to have enabled the XP firewall...?

Gonna have to go through my services page with a fine-toothed comb tonight. So much crap I disabled in there a year ago, I'm not sure I can accurately recall what was needed. It took quite a bit of trial and ERROR! That's okay, I kept notes, now all I have to do is find them!

When I cont/alt/del, and look at performance, it is showing my machine using 124 mb page file, (AV disabled), as opposed to 80 a couple of months back!

What is this indicitive of? Services? The new "security center"?

If you can pick up a copy of the special issue,summer2004, of maximumpc, unauthorized guide to windows xp, it will guide you step by step through essential and nonessential services.

Thanks Roy, I'll have to look for that mag.

Have you ever been to www.blackviper.com? He has a pretty inclusive list of services, what they are and if/why you may need them. As far as anything post-SP2, I'm not sure though...
