Me

Hi,

Me. I'm bad.

I don't want a little proximity effect. I want to wallow in it.

And I'm always banging my mics with my harp rack.

Thanks,

Hairy Larry

ever see a singer get so animated durring a recording session he chips a tooth on a mic....its a very funny thing to see. and the moral is ... if you eat the mic dont jump around like an idiot at the same time

The worst is if you use a 57 or something small and flat like that. Woof. I'm an eater too, I blame it on years of under-powered pa's.

I only eat mic's that have died and no longer work,...... I'm a microphiliac! pa bum dum....

I eat the mic live with a dynamic, but I manage to stay about at 6 inches with a condensor while recording. I back further up for backing vocals to catch more room sometimes.

F.S.

Whats funny is I am total opposites:

Live I swallow it. In fact, I even tend to wrap my hand around one side of it because it holds more sound in the capsule.

Recording I tend to stand further away than I ought to which is probably one reason why I've never had a vocal track that I thought was up to my potential and ability.

Usually, with a cardioid mic, that will suppress the presence range (where consonants are) and boost mids and lows, making the vocal unintelligible.

I did not know that, and it highly possible that is happening. Thanks for the input.

yeah.. i thought that was pretty obvious.

i love when shitty bands have the singer doing that. i laugh and say, what an asshole..

but on the other hand, alot of hardcore/screamo singers(?) ahem i guess they are called screamers, do that on purpose, they want it to sound like

ghggughghghghllsllskyugugugh

meanwhile they're actually saying, "i like white bunnies and pink eggs!"

hey- theres a front and a back to a cardiod condensor mic right??

how do you tell which one it is :D :D :D

also, whats better for rap vocals, figure 8 or wide cardioid!!

speaking of which, i could use a variable pattern condensor.. i've been putting it off for some time now.

vote and stuff

only when i'm playing live. my lips are often brushing up against the grill, and sometimes i even bump a tooth into it. when recording, i'm a good 2-3 inches away.
