All songwriters have influences - who are yours? My big 3 are:

~Elliott Smith
~Rhett Miller
~Damien Rice

woah, nice!

Nick Drake
Isaac Brock

For lyrics at least, but really everything I listen to influences me in one way or another.

Lyrically:
Elvis Costello
Noddy Holder & Jim Lea
Nick Cave
Leonard Cohen.
Musically:
I listen to heaps & love many but my musicals skills are too limited to take influences & use them.

Brian Wilson
Neil Finn
My wife
My daughters
My mortgage

My mortgage

HA!

DrummerBoy, I tried for like a month straight to like Nick Drake... I think it's his voice, I dunno - he's extremely talented, though, I cannot deny that. I'm pumped that you've heard of Elliott, though - he's influenced so many huge bands that it shocks me to learn that very few "average" listeners know about him. It's a shame

Lyrically

Jeff Buckley
Thom Yorke
Billy Corgan

Musically

Jeff Buckley
Radiohead
Walking Concert
And you will know us by the trail of Dead

Raven, I've always wanted to know: Is Damien Rice like HUGE in Ireland? I'm a real big fan of him, and a few of my friends are as well, but he's not too big here in the U.S. Hmmm, just wondering
