Hi. The vocals need greater clarity. Sounds like you double tracked the vox and added some room reverb with a marginal amount of pre-delay. This makes them sound a bit metallic. Try reducing reverb. Also boost upper mid eg to try and get some clarity.

Secondly, the drum sounds which you are using are panned too hard and stick out too prominantly. Try compressing the stero drum track, and ride them back in the mix (bring them down).

Also, try checking out some different drum samples because the ones you have chosen to use, make the drum machine worse and more unrealistic (than a drum machine with good samples) . Almost sounds like an Alesis SR-16, in which case your stuck with the samples. Better samples will help the drums sit better in the mix. Even better, although most likely not practical - use a real dummer.

For the distorted guitar, try doubling it up - with alternative chord inversions / other melody lines - and pan them left and right. This will really beef up the mix.

Try this out and post a newer mix.

Ben.

Absolutely unintelligible. If you are trying to tell me something, you failed. -Richie

Now see I thought it was at least as "intelligible" as your reply. Any way thanks for checking it out and no I wasn't trying to tell you anything.

Ok- here's real clear- The vocal is buried in the mix so that I can't make out a word of it. Try a midrange presence boost and mix the vocal up. I didn't say it was bad, I said- I can't make out a single word of the lead vocal. And if you aren't trying to tell me something, why use words?-Richie

when did people stop being nice and polite to each other? *sigh*

ANYWAYS, the lyrics are really burried in the mix. try dialling in a bit a bit of midrange..most of the inteligibility of the vocals is within the 1k-3k region, so try doing something to those. The distorted guitar sound isn't to my taste tbh, there's something about that tone that just doesn't do it to me. also the guitar playing the melody line needs to cut thru the mix a bit, and i think perhaps a different tone is required here.

good luck :)

We have trouble with getting the vocals out in every song we do, were still learning how to use this recorder and we have no recording experience at all so it's all a work in progress. I don't think we even knew anything about panning when we did these songs so every things straight down the middle.
We've been using a $40 Shure pg57 instrument mic on all our vocals but we just upgraded to the Beta 58A so that should help. Thanks for the recording lesson we'll get it right someday hopefully. :)
