Just getting started setting up a PC based recording studio; Dual processor system, SB live with tons of Soundfonts, Digital Orchestrator Pro (which I'll probably retire), Atr tube preamp, etc, etc. While my digital tracks sound hot, i do get a certain amount of low level white noise with the vocals. Any tricks for eiminating that white noise from the Line In on a SC. This seem to be inherent in most of the Cards I've used.

What's the secret?

buy a new soundcard...

that's probably the best advice that I can give (being a former SBLive 'recorder' - I still own one only for the midi functionality)

the SB Live isn't the 'quitest' card on the planet - I used to have one and have since upgraded to a Delta44 which is a world ahead of the SB in terms of 'quiet'....not much you can do other than making sure your not running your signal through any unnecessary things (ie. mixer if you don't need to) and to use quality cables

the ART tube preamp is probably adding some noise into the signal as well...a solid-state preamp might be a bit quiter (but not the SB preamp - that's 'loud' as well)...

Thanks Pratt. I'll take a look at the Delta44. Any compatibility issues that you know of?
