I tend to write in the same style everytime I try to put things down on paper, when I'm just farting around musically i'm all over the board but but my lyrics tend fall apart. Any idea's?

When you say "...the same style..." what do you mean exactly? Are you talking about the meter of your texts, the topics or the vocabulary or what specifically?

Try a way you've never tried and even if you have to force it, then force it. But do not dare come back to this class until you've done so !

;)I was joking, by the way.

Listen to some new music... like a completely new, different genre than you usually listen to. Try to pull some ideas from that.

A musical associate of mine would often take songs he'd written in one genre and then try to arrange the same song in a differnt genre. This would often force him to change some lyrics, add different passing chords, etc.

As a result, he would at times come up with a "better" song - and at a minimum, it would force his to think and compose in different genres.

This can also be an effective tool for a writer that is suffereing temporary "writer's block" - rather than trying to creating a new song - sinply "re-create" an old song.
