If you had only 1 tube preamp, what would you use it for? We are recording the basic tracks live onto 2 adats (drums, bass and guitar) and we are going to overub vocals and extra gutars on the other tacks.

I just got a vintage mic tube preamp on ebay. What should we use this on? The guitar Mic? or One of the drums? (Bass will be direct through a bass pod pro)...

I would use it on EVERYTHING because tubes are truly the secret to great recordings. Everything recorded with a tube sounds sweet, warm, phat, vintage. EVERYTHING tubes!

Sorry dude. Just messin' with ya. What kind of preamp is it? Is it in good condition? Does it sound good?

Here's the big question: Will you be using a vintage tube guitar amp, as well?

If not, then I'd use it on guitars first. If so, then I would ditch the POD, and use it as a d.i. on bass.

That would be my pecking order.

Tubes are kewl.

Could be cool on snare too... Or overheads. One mono overhead thru the tube thingy, very hot. aaaaaahhh....

But I'd go with the bass too, if it has to go thru the pod otherwise.

And vocals ofcourse, when overdubbing....

I'm using a Custom Vibrolux reverb and a Deluxe Reverb (69) on guitar, so thats got the tubes covered, Im wondering how they will sound through a tube pre as well though. I have no idea how it sounds yet, its being sent though ebay. Its a Bogen,it looks like early 70s from the pictures...

The bass sounds perfect through the bass pod pro. I dont even want to mess with it. The compression is great on it as well. I guess we will hook it up and see what sounds best. Im thinking the guitar or maybe the snare? Yes, we can always use it on overdubs as well.

Guitars just sound more at home through tube amps and/or processors, as does the bass.

Everything else is kinda' iffy. If it's a cheapo tube processor, or if it's really old and needs to be changed, then it can really muck up an otherwise perfectly-good vocal or accoustic guitar take. Ditto on drums, although I don't suppose it could do too much harm to a snare.

For simplicity's sake:

You COULD use it on whatever it sounds best on:D

Just an idea:cool:
