My setup is : mics -->mixer--> equalizer
Which soundcard should I get if I have cakewalk HS 2002 and Win98? The only inputs I need are 2 s/pdif(left and right), which are coming from the output of the equalizer.

One of the newer Sound Blaster cards (Platinum, Audigy...) would probably do the trick, but are sure that is all you need? There are far more flexible cards out there on the market...

Right now that is the only input i need. I am mostly going to use this for recording some guitar and drum tracks(seperately, not live). I am only using two mics for my drums right now but i plan on getting some more. i have one mic about 1/2 ft away from the resonant side of the bass drum head and the other mic is about one ft over my head.

Get the Midiman Audiophile 2496. $149 This goes way beyond soundblaster in quality.

If you don't want to use soundfonts with midi inputs, I agree with Middleman. You get full duplex 24 bit recording capability. A steal @ $149.
