Hey all,

I'm setting up a home recording studio and have come down to choosing the right software. I have toyed with Sonar 8 Producer and really like it but cannot afford it - I can however afford Sonar Home Studio 7. Does anyone know what differences "home studio" has from producer? Also, if you know of any other software packages that you would recommend, let me know. My genre of music is rock/metal/movie soundtrack type of stuff. My basic needs are to sequence MIDI, program drums, and record vocals and guitar.

My system is win xp pro, 3gb ram, dual-core intel processor. and M-Audio Fast Track audio interface.

God Bless!

Michael

I use Sonar 8 Studio...its is exactly the same as the Producer Edition without some of the plugins and a damn sight cheaper.. I also thought I'd never use anyway (Mastering plugs, Dimension Pro, Z3ta, V-Vocal, Surround sound etc)

Home Studio is just a simpler version of it all for the home enthusiast..I had version 4...Its good enough but the interface lacks the professional level and in-depth features of Sonar that I am only now starting to use...and that's the thing..

If I were you would which one would I buy?

Neither

Id go with Reaper for the time being until you felt it wasnt doing what you needed it for..meanwhile I'd save and when the time came I'd buy the PE version (version 9 will be out soon)...to be honest Ive spent more filling in the gaps that the plugs in PE would have given me and im still not there..

Thats only if you really want Sonar...to be honest there are no real bad ones out there Id just recommend buying one that was above your means when you got the cash as you start finding yourself using the features eventually as its geared towards a professional level

This website is a great resource...you can even mention behringer there lol ;)
