Which software...

Getting my new pc soon and i wanna record with it instead of the 4 track, im wondering which software to use. Umm think i wanna use one that allows me to use me midi keyboard, also need a good number of tracks, and something that isnt unnessicarily complicated...
 
Mmm it does look very good, and cheap, but im willing to spend a little more if need be i think. It cant be capable of much at a 3mb download.
 
Oh don't be fooled by it's size ... It's a very capable multitracking sequencer.
 
don't know too much about n-track, except that a lot of people stand by it. Personally, i use Sonar www.cakewalk.com and it serves me well. it comes with a ton of featues and support.
for good audio and midi capabilites i would think the major players are sonar, cubase, logic and stuff like that. if you ahve any questions, feel free, otherwise do some research on each program and see what looks enticing too you.

all great. or for free try audacity and krystal. try all the demoes and see which one you like best
 
Look on this site, you'll see that the most popular software is by far Sonar. Since homerecording is a good place to get help, go where the crowd is!

cubase sucks and so does anybody who uses it!! and of course i am joking. my point being that we all have our own tastes. like manning says, ther are many many programs available. Try out all the demos. To be totally honest, they mostly do the same dam thing (more or less), In my humblest of opinions, its more of a interface thing, just use what feels most comfortable. If Cool edit pro supported midi better, id still be using it, it is the easiest program in the world. Insted i went with sonar casue i like the layout. I like cubase too as well but i found it a bit more confusing. Steinberg makes some great software though (vst alone makes them a leader).

One question i have for anybody with experience with this softare is, does anybody like logic?? I know it is a very popular program and makes great music but it is DANG hard to use! by far the most confusing software i have used.
 
well pgmusic.com just upped the ante a bit with the release of version 9 of powertracks with a slew of new features that includes TC helicon harmony software i think its called. if you go to the foruim it seems the users are really into this feature. just the midi sequencer alone is worth 29 bucks.
just a sampling of the built in effects like some of the vintage guitar and bass effects and too many others to list and the midi notation and sequencing malkes it a no brainer for 29 bucks. the thing i like about pgmusic is when i upgrade i pay just 19 bucks to the new version.
but then i also like all the others like n track, magix, and multitrackstudio.
as you said - really the only way to see is try the demoes.
