Which sine wave to use ?

I'm looking into calibrating the VU meters for the mixer and recorder. Which sine wave do I use to calibrate ? I've heard 400 or 440 hz .. Is this correct ? Thanks as always!

400 Hz is common for run of the mill setting of levels.
Likewise, 1Khz is fine.
