Which preamp are you guys using??

Believe it or not, I did the entire 360 Mixtape on a Samson C Valve ($79) lol....About to re-up for a better unit and was looking at what you guys are using since we're all into HipHop/Rap vocals. Was looking at a channel strip, but my 3630 comp hasn't let me down yet (5+ years). Thanks-
 
Depending on vocals, I regularly use the Neve 1272 pre, which originally wasn't a pre in the first place ;) The other 2 I use is a Behringer T1953 w/ a telefunken tube in it (now rivals thousand dollar pres) & just bought a Millennia STT-1 real nice. I also have a VTB-1 somewhere in the closet lol

Or never have tried to, lol...Here's what I got and how can I replace it?? Tube says "Sovtek 7025/12XA7WA"

I use a Behringer MIC100. Makes me have to do more work to make shit sound good LOL.

I might eventually switch up to the VTB-1, so Mindset I might hit you up for yours.
 
I normally use a custom DIY API 312 to DBX 160A for my vox signal chain.
 
Big Jinx I may be wrong but I'm like 99.9% sure that you dont have to do any soldering, that tube should be in a socket and all you should have to do is pull it out...WARNING! Im not sure if its the case with yours but I know for a fact that some tubes hold voltage even after they are unplugged so be careful while unplugging it.

As far as finding a replacement tube, go to any television repair shop, or your local electronic supply store. They should be able to order it if they don't have one or an equal replacement tube. Oh and check any CB shops you can find, they carry alot of tubes also. Good luck.

I use a Presonus BlutTube DSP and a Samson C-Valve. The Bluetube I use for vocals, and the Samson I use for my acoustic guitar.

For my last project I just used the phantom power on my Alesis Multimix 8 USB, and they were pretty good IMO. Check out the track here:

track name is "TEST 1". It was my first serious attempt at tracking and mixing vocals.

The low end pre's are not much better than most on any low end board, at least thats the case for my equipment anyways.
 
the joe meek channel strips are the thing where i'm at. everybody i know rocking the on q is in love with that.
 
Hey, if someone could help me out that would be great. Well, I'm pretty poor and my audiotechnica just broke so I'm getting a Shure Sm7B for metal vocals. i figured that I could use a tube preamp to up the sound quality so I bought a "good condition" behringer T1953 on ebay. Well, when I got the package, the thing reaked of cigarettes despite the "smoke free studio" describtion. in addition, most of the screws are missing out of the bottom, including four screws around the vent. i've never seen one in person so I'm trying to figure out if the seller ripped parts out of it. For example, is there supposed to be a fan where the vent is? and how the heck do i crack this baby open to change the tubes? kus i tried taking out every screw, all that did was leave me with parts rattling around inside and screws that I can't get back in. Also, should I send this item back? did i get boned?
 
You should be able to pull the tube out, and put the tube back in. I got my tubes from ebay.

I'm thinking of getting some joe meek strips too.

Gray, you got ripped off, I would go and return it if you can. Mine doesn't rattle or anything, looks good, sounds good.
