Which Power Amp for my new set-up?

Hey everyone,

I have been reading these forums to try to get some opinions on recording/live gear. I have already decided on a Yamaha MG16/6FX and two Yamaha BR15s, and of course I need a power amp to run the stuff. My question is: which one?

I am thinking 2x400 will be easily enough for my applications, and I have looked at Crown, and Behringer (EP1500) and heard bad things about both. Are these rumours true? Should I spend more money? What about Yamaha? Does it really matter?

i use qsc's rmx series. I love them, and they have never let me down when it comes to power..If i were you i would look into them.

If you do go the QSC route, see if you can get into at least the PLX series. Even with a lower power rating, it will probably sound fuller and faster than an RMX amp. You may also want to look into Crest, or for a used Crown Macrotech. In any situation, make sure the amp you do get offers double what the speakers are rated for if you can.
 
For live sound I would seriously avoid them. First, they just aren't really designed for the type of wear they will take (physically and mechanically). Second, I believe that Hafler just stopped making amps all together, so be aware of that before you buy one. For in the studio with just a regular monitoring environment, Hafler is an excellent compromise between price and sound quality (in my opinion).

Thanks. I should've specified that I meant for use with passive studio monitors (especially since this thread is about PA amps). I was surprised to see that they stopped making them when I went to their website, because they really did seem like a good deal for powering some passive studio monitors.
