Can I get some suggestions on overhead mics for my kit???? I would appreciate a wide price range.

Whoops

I forgot. Someone on this forum posted that the Marshall MXL 603 is a good overhead. It seems to be much cheaper than, say, the AKG C3000B's. Are they any good??? What's the difference???

I have the 603's and I LOVE them for overheads. So far, it's been my favorite overhead. You can pick up a pair of them for about $150 new.

I bought mine through 8th. street music in Philly. Their website is great, and they have good prices on a lot of the mics.

I also picked up 3 AT Pro25 kick mic's (I use them for toms) for $50 each.

What cymbals do you record with them? Are they bright or dark sounding?

only good for highs???

I heard that 603s really bring out the highs, and are more for analog recording. Is that true??? Or am I going to be able to get a good sound no matter what???

Well, I use all Paiste cymbals (I have a dozen 2002 and Signature cymbals) and the 603's faithfully reproduce them (I have from a 3" Cup chime up to a 22" Power Ride.)

I've never used them in Analog recording. I record on a pair of Tascam DA-38 digital recorders.

There should be no difference at all. If there were any wrong with the mics, it would show up in digital....In Analog you could get away with a "less than pristine" mic, because Analog doesn't have the same noise floor as Digital.

I quickly scouted the Micorphone section. Here's several threads where you can actually hear the mics... FWIW
