Which one is better?

I've seen the Crate Preamp for about 190 $ and the PEavey one for about 200 something $. I can decide for none of them because I don't know their quality yet. If you do know a bit of these tell me what you think and if it is a good choice.

nico, what type of preamp are you looking for and how will you use it?
 
Well:

The pre-amp I'm looking for, will be used not only to get warmer vocals in the recording but also to improve the sound gotten from an acoustic guitar.

What i'll be needing is just a two channel pre amp. The only thing I disliked from the Crate one is that it lacks of balanced I/O. But the price is that what is taking me towards it.
 
Never heard of any of them, but wanna know. Do you have any web links? I couldn't find any info on any of them. I did find one Peavey preamp (TMP1) but that was single channel.

Really I`m not looking for guitar pre amps. I´m looking for vocal preamps...

The web link you may try is crateaudio.com they have a mic preamp that looks appealing, but I don't know yet how it performs or how good is crate on this equipments

The description of this preamp on the Crate website is some of the most misleading, stupid catalog copy I've ever read:

New for 2001 the SM6-MP was one of those great "skunk-works" projects. One problem with digital recording can be the lack of warmth, especially n microphone channels.

Could some rich bastard buy this and test it? :)

However, this is not a stereo preamp, which you mentioned that you wanted. You would need two of them, and for that price you can get a Mackie instead, and get four preamps that you *know* are good. :)

Yes, it may be a not too good pre amp, but, what about the Makie you've told me?. Does it have nice features and does it offer great sounding?.

Well, the thing is that I haven't used Makie that much, so I don't know how they perform... tell me your opinion about it...

Use the Search engine to search for Mackie.

The preamps are regarded as very good value, and you get a decent mixer as a bonus. :)

All I can say is I have had several Peavey products and have had one or two crate products. I will never buy anything from crate again.


Peavey may not be the best but, Crate flat out sucks.

I don't know how they do it but the sound of crate stuff seems to go down hill right off the batt.... and it's not that great to begin with.

Just my opinion.

nico, Mackie's are fine but don't come in single channels. If you're looking a nice versatile mic pre, check out the VTB-1 $179. Best pre available under $500, IMO.
