hi,
im thinking of buying oktava's from the german e-bay site, they seem to go for a bit below list and in general people say nice things about them, my question is should I stick to the tried and tested mk012's or should i think about getting a matched pair of mk101's or 102's instead?
I know the 101's and 102's might be better for vocal applications but thats not what i want them for?
basically is a large diaphragm capsule a better option for drum overheads?
thanks

Never tried a Lomo M1 as an overhead. I like the MK-012's with the omni caps as an overhead sometimes. I've been experimenting with mono overhead lately. I liked the way a single omni 012 made the snare sound (round and meaty) but a single KM-184 just has more air. I think the single MK-012 omni has a more "vintage" sound.

They make a cardiod, hyper-cardiod and omni caps. The caps are identified by a liitle insignia like these.

2) Does it sound like a Neumann U87 if it is using a Neumann-type capsule? Listen...Think of it like this..... If you take an engine from a PORSCHE 911 and strap it into a Volkswagen Beetle, you DON'T get a PORSCHE, but you DO get "one HELL of a ride"!
------sound rooms discription of the 101 head.
(i alyways thought it was funny)
i'd really like to try the lomo caps myselfe, but havn't had the chance.
