IM a DJ Planning to make mixtapes and some hip-hop recordings. Which multitracker is better?? The new fostex VF-8, Boss br-8, or tascam 424???

Yo Popping Trunks:

Whatever box you buy, buy digital. It's so much faster to get stuff done; you don't have to wait for the tape to rewind, ever.

Get 8 tracks minimum.

Get 24 bit sound if possible.

Shop around; ask; use this site for research.

Happy New Year

I've been thinking.. I have a Tascam 688 and it really kicks butt. But then I thought, since the 688 has individual outputs for each track, I could interface it to a BR-8 and have a really REALLY kickass digital studio going. Cassettes don't bother me, but they begin to pile up after a while, and they're not as durable as I'd like. It'd either be the BR-8, or a real nice Mackie or Alesis ADAT machine.

Phantom powwer

Would it be hard to add phantom power to the boss br-8? Im thinking about going with that since it has a lot more effects than the fostex.

Popntrunks: You can buy separate phantom power supplies. Not sure how much they cost though. Or you could by a separate pre-amp, like the presonus blue-tube or whatever its called. A wild guess is that is sounds better than the BR-8s own (although I haven't heard them and so is only guessing).

Prism: Uhm. Why? What would that add? I'm not sure I get it. And even thoughthe 688 has individual outputs, the BR-8 has only 2 inputs...

Heh.. I dunno.. someone mentioned the BR-8 and it got the wheels in my head turning..
The BR-8 only has 2 inputs? That's pathetic. Scratch that idea. I'll save my money and get ADAT, or maybe that 12 track recorder by Akai.
