Which mic preamp to buy

Ok i will learn more about gain structure, any more advise for me

I think all he's saying is that your mic is turned up too high in the interface,
so it is going into the red / distorting in your mixer.

Turn down the input gain on your interface to where your signal is in the yellow while you are recording,
you can turn it up louder when you are mixing it later.

Digital inputs are VERY unforgiving to signals that are too hot,
they distort and sound like crap.

I just use the mic preamp on my interface, I can't
afford to spend more than the mic cost to plug it in.

ETA: sorry, didn't see all the other responses before I posted. :o

Oh my, I am friggen stuffed. Experimental dish tonight. Kielbasa, fried in olive oil, with red onion, jalapeno, garlic. Then added roma tomatoes, mushrooms, and a pound of chopped spinach. 3/4 stick of butter and 4oz cream cheese. Served on whole grain angel hair pasta.

I ate enough for two of my skinny asses.....

Mmmm. Can smell it from my place! Or maybe that's your breath :p

It may be my breath. Seriously, try the recipe sometime. It was really good. I think my output may clip tomorrow morning though. :)

I've pasted your recipe into my collection. Might be a good option for a bloke's night!

Cool. Remember to keep a little distance from the mic too.
That's another thing you can overload, regardless of how low the interface gain is.

It's a little bit of a balancing act, but once you know, it's easy.

I recorded a real old song just a while ago using your info, I want to know if i fixed that clipping sound good and My new problem is that the beat is so low under my voice

the song is tellem

That's definitely less-distorted than the other ones, but you're still coming in a little too hot. Good progress though!

Yeah dude, just aim for the peaks to be somewhere around -10 or a little lower

I can't believe no one mentioned the Golden Age pre-73 in this thread...not that the OP needs it, but still!

:spank:

Have to agree with what Jimmy said. You would be well advised to save your money and get into the higher end preamps. True has a good one starting at around $500, but if you really want to feel as well as hear the difference you really have to get up there. Avalon, Neve, and so on. There is a reason they are always used by the pro's.
