Which LUFS for Rendering/Mastering

Recommendations for mastering suggest that we aim for a LUFS reading of between - 12 and -14 LUFS (approx). However, in Reaper, when rendering/mastering, three different LUFS readings are shown in the Render/Master window i.e. LUFS-M, LUFS-S and LUFS-1. To which of these does the recommendation apply. Many thanks, Brian

What they are:

LUFS-M: Similar to a peak meter - the spec says it's .4 seconds average.

LUFS-S: Short-term a little wider sampling window, but for 3 seconds.

LUFS-I: The overall LUFS value (perceived loudness) of the entire song, beginning to end.

What I would use:
I would use the LUFS-1 as it gives you the best reading over the whole song. The M and S would give info about the peaks of the song - and are helpful in assessing peak transient info.

Many thanks. Pity the recommendations, which I read, did not make that clear. This very helpful from you. Brian
