for recording music and editing which has more available software and capabilities, the mac or the pc which would you suggest i purchase. any good faq site you can recommend for research

One day there will be a nuclear war over this topic.

I suggest a mac for music and all multimedia.
I rarely hear about a pissed mac user

Even so.. a Pc is quite capable and you should have no problem using one. Just make sure you have a full set of hair when you do run into a problem (I have a PC and use to have hair )

I agree. I've used a Mac using MOTU Performer, and now Digital Performer for the last 12 years or so. Never had a problem. Never! I also in the last couple years have built my own custom Win/tel machine and have been using both for music production. The hard thing every mac user runs into is keeping your machine current with the "latest and greatest". My PowerMac 8500 (1996) w/ 300mhz G3 still kicks but though (I'm writing this on a 1994 PowerMac 7100/66). New they are a little more expensive, blah, blah. A good fast PC will be almost as expensive. If you build your owm PC, putting it together is fun, if you are into it. Bottom line, the mac OS is worlds easier to use. At this time though, you either have to go Pro audio or nothing as for as audio cards. With the PC there is a low end , medium end and High end side of audio cards and software. Both platforms have there plus's and minus's. I don't fight about it anymore though. I use whatever gets the job done.
In the end, it's about creating music. Use whatever your budget can handle.

If you get a Mac, the system will work like a charm and you'll be satisfied. However, as mentioned above, your options are severely limited. One good software package. One good soundcard. Welcome to "Why the Mac is More Stable than the PC 101"

If you get a PC, you WILL have headaches. There will be days where you're yankin your hair out left & right. BUT, suddenly you have SO many options. Soundcards up the yin-yang...multitracking software everywhere from $35 to $350. Also, you WILL save money building a PC for recording only. The PC itself can be built for $600-$700 with a small monitor and no soundcard.

You have to decide what's right for you based on your computer knowledge and budget. Look up "Pro Tools" and start from there...and avoid iMac like the plague.

(BTW, I am a PC person big time. But if I was rich and buying a machine that was for recording only...and I promised myself to never play with it...I'd probably get a Mac)

i am not rich though, i want to get a system just for recording , i have a laptop now which i use for internet, typing paper, mp3's and playing around with but i want a comp just for recording. i want a program like protools but don't have 10,000 my budget for my studio is about $5,000 and that includes computer, software, cd burner, sound card, pre amps, mics, monitor w/ near field speakers, i already spend $2,000 on the planet phat module and akai mpc2000 (drum machines, sequencer, sampler all in one) already had the yamaha psc330. Is digi001 worthy compared with protools 24/mixplus? how does it satnd up to cake walk, cubase, etc. can i get what i want in my budget using mac or should i go to pc, like how much better are the mac program and the system it self, any recommmended books or websites?
