"Hi, I'm in Delaware."
For my capstone project at school, I get to build an fx pedal, but I'm having some trouble deciding which one to build. I'm deciding between a couple different compressors or a tremolo because I've got just about everything else I could need. Actually... the compressor would probably be more useful... Anyway, I don't know a whole lot about the different components and what makes a good pedal, so maybe someone can help me out. Here are the options:

Obviously, the optical compressor is the cheapest option, but I have to assume that there's a reason the others are more expensive. The 5-knob compressor looks like it could be the best option if I just want a compressor because it's got more options (and I know I'd need to play with the settings). One of the things I would use it for is crushing the initial strum and then playing up the sustain. There's a setting on my J-Station that combines that with a pitch shifter thing and distortion to make the guitar sound like a violin (or other orchestral string instrument). Basically, it's a really cool sound and I would like to be able to do that with whatever compressor I choose.
Thoughts?
