I record to a Tascam 564 digital 4 track with different synths and use SM58's for the vocals. I've always thought the vocals sounded pretty clean, but am always interested in getting a more professional sound. I'm thinking of getting a good condenser mic (NT1, or whatever) but my board does not have phantom power. Then I saw some info on the ART Tube Pac which combines a compressor and tube preamp with phantom power for $210. Then I saw an add for some type of ZOOM processor which would make my SM 58's "sound like an expensive condenser" so it says.

My question is - since I don't have a compressor anyways, should I go ahead and buy the ART and use it with the 58's (will it make a difference) then save up for the mic. I sure can't buy them both at the same time.

Or would a condenser like the Audio Tech ATM31a work with the ART setup and give me a better sound than I get now?? (The ad says it's for vocals?!?!? though it is not a large diaphram condenser) or would I not see a noticable difference between the Audio Tech and the SM58 with a compressor and preamp?
