Which Etymotic headphones?

I'm after a pair of sound-isolating ear-plug headphones for my iPod and have read very good reviews of the Etymotic Research headphones:

http://www.etymotic.com/

There are several types, the top of the range being the ER4P MicroPro. There is an optional cable that changes these from ER4P into ER4S, a comparative review of which can be found here:

Comparative review of ER4P and ER4S

However, even on eBay the price of the 4P with 4S is around £180 - a lorra wonga for headphones.

The next model down, the ER6 is more affordable, and there are some relatively new ones on the market, the ER6i. The newer ones are modelled on the iPod (basically they're white) and are aimed at users thereof.

So, I'm wondering whether anyone out there has any real-world experience of any of these headphones. My needs are basically noise-cancelling for bike-riding/air travel, good bass response and comfort. What I'd really like to know is whether the more affordable ones would suffice, or whether it really is worth shelling out for the top-of-the-range ER4Ps. I know the value of such things in terms of what's 'worth it' is very subjective, but I'm looking for some opinions from anyone with experience of such things.

Cheers
Jock
