So yeah, which one? I am ready to start the artwork for my CD, but I would like to pick a good CD duplication service first. I have seen prices extremely low and extremely high. The mix of quality and price is something I am unsure of as this is my first time.

I use www.oasiscd.com for replication. I usually duplicate using this company that starts with a K, pretty cheap & nice looking...

discmakers.com also seems to be about the same in pricing, and Ive heard a few people 'round here used em to good effect. Haven't used em myself, and I've gotten flamed before for suggesting things I haven't used personally, so read the following disclaimer very carefully:

I do not endorse discmakers, nor have I used them, but I may due to prior support for their company from other members of this site.

Use the search function and use such terms as "duplication" and "replication". While you may be Hell-bent on replication over duplication, people have confused the terms, so you will get possibly informative results from both terms.

When my CD was recorded, I was stuck between Oasis CD and Discmakers. Was I going to duplicate or was I going to replicate?

Ultimately, I ended up going with oasiscd.com because, at the time, they were offering a CD promotional program. I think it's called their "Tools of Promotion." Basically, if you order so many CDs, you get free subscriptions to cdbaby.com, hostbaby.com (they host websites), sonicbids.com, some free display racks to help you sell your CD in local brick and mortar record stores and some other goodies that I can't remember. Basically, tools to help you push your CD so you come back for more. In addition, each one of those websites have their own goody packages that they offer. With cdbaby, for example, you get some limited digital distrubution which really helped me because I seem to be selling more downloads than CDs.

As for Discmakers, they were a little cheaper but they weren't offering anything in terms of CD promotion. At least, not at that time they weren't. I don't know about now. Maybe somebody else can speak up for Discmakers, I don't know much about them.

In the end, I guess you have to figure out what your needs are and who can provide you what you need at the most reasonable price. Don't always go for the cheapest. As cusebassman pointed out, there is a difference between duplication and replication make sure you know the difference.

I hope this helps you in your quest.

what about places to order less than 500 cds. i sold 50 this year and don't know what the heck i'd do with 500.

I've used discmakers for my last album, and will for the soon to be released next album. They've been good to work with. They were pretty prompt getting orders to me once everything was finalized

Damn... "click on the photos to enlarge" indeed.

heh j/k... yer puuuurty :p

discmakers seems to have fair pricing... as stated before!

Seems like either would work, and the other site gives you the free membership stuff, so I suppose that is a draw to their service.

nationwidedisc.com

I used them for replication and ordered 1000 cds. 6 panel fold out (clear) jewel case. I got the order back in about 6 days (they said it would take 10)

They also threw in 300 11x17 posters for free.

All this for $1400! Great deal! I've spent $1700 for 1000 cds before.

What is the difference in duplication and replication?

I'm hoping to put out a demo CD this summer and only want like 100 CD's to sell to friends and stuff...what's my best option?

Diskfactory and Tune Core are awesome for small runs.

These guys have always been great, and for me they are local. They've been around longer than most anyone else in the business.

And theyre so cool, they will still do vinyl, too! ;)

This is who I deal with as well. Great deals, and as stated, they do Vinyl. It is really easy too, as far as getting them the artwork, and CD. I did the artwork for first CD I worked on with an old Laptop using the touchpad and Photoshop from like 97. This was good enough for them to work with, and it came back looking great. I highly recomend them.

Found a great one the other day through someone else I thought I would add. You get all the great stuff like shrink wrap, upc, full color disk printing, and all that the only draw back I found is it's only a 2 page insert. But for $1.60 a cd you can't really beat this place. Well for small runs that is.

Yeah, that's the only thing, only 2 panel inserts, but they do some decent work.

I'm planning on going with Kunaki. They look awesome. Almost too good to be true. Thoughts?

they do decent work. I only use them for any shortruns I do. Everything else I rather pay .80c for.

We've used amtechdisc.com for most of our CD duplication work. They're in Canada, but they're fast, inexpensive, and they offer metallic colors. Very cool people to do business with.
