I normally use Logic but I want to see what everyone else uses, and what do/don't you like about the DAW you use?

I use Sonar X1 on an XP system, I don't like it much more than Sonar 6 - too graphics heavy for my needs.

I use Logic as well and I like pretty much everything about it.

Crudebase myself. Usually happy, but just pissed at stuff right now.

Probably my bad somehow...

reaper. It is cheap and very simple but does everything that I want, bearing in mind that I don't work with midi very often. Adding effects is easy and the stock plugins aren't bad. I have used logic at school and I can understand why it is better with all the vst's and stuff but considering reaper is 40 quid and logic is 300 odd quid, reaper is an absolute bargain.
So I guess the main thing I like about it is that it isn't complicated, but other things like are the nice toolbar with useful tools such as the snap, and I really like the cross-fading because it is really useful for making tracks blend.
Something I don't like about it is that if you scroll whilst hovering over the section where the actual recorded parts are showing then it zooms in and out where as I would prefer this to be to scroll up and down and then hold control and scroll to zoom in and out or something.

To add, it was not actually my issue, other than the desire to 'beta' test the newest version of Cubase.

I probably shouldn't have posted my frustration at Cubase in the Newbie forum. I love the software, just not the newest edition, that I should have been aware, would have some issues, as that is always the way new software versions come out. At least with most.

Is this v7 or just the latest build of v7?? Should I secretly be cheering that I didn't get in on the free upgrade??

This question again??? So soon after the other one last week.

Sonar X2 for recording instrumentation and composing, Audition CS6 for recording vocals and mixing, Audition 3.0 for mastering. Though not strictly a DAW, I use Finale for composition, though I recently bought Sibelius 7, along with a couple of other less expensive amanuensis programs, primarily because when Finale saves to MIDI, it doesn't include things like ritards and fermatas, and I've been playing around lately with Vocaloid; I'll get around to learning Sibelious but, for my current project, I'll stick with what I know, which is Finale.

As for why, I started with Sonar when it was still Cakewalk back in the 80s, so I'm used to it. I like Audition CS6 for mixing and vocals recording because it uses an "analog tape" screen model, has good support for the vsts and vstis that I use (though not Melodyne, darn it!), and plays nicely with my control surfaces. I use Audition 3.0 for mastering because I wind up burning to CD when I'm done and, for some reason, CDs burned on Audition 3.0 sound better to my ears than when burned from CS6 or using a dedicated burning program like Nero.

Samplitude Pro-X

DITTO....been using Samplitude since version 7....ProX is basically Samplitude 12.
I have NO idea why they named it ProX, which implies "10" if you're into the Roman numeral thing. :D

Tried Sonar way back...not bad, just didn't feel/fit my style.
Was a Cubase user WAY back...and it was one of the best sequencers around, but I got away from it after it went DAW.
Considered Nuendo instead of Samplitude....but the price was like 3 times what I paid for Samplitude (glad I didn't go with Nuendo)
Used SAW (Software Audio Workshop) back in it's early days around 93-96, and it's still a pretty good DAW app, but there was a period where the owner sort of dropped his promised free support...and I walked away from it like a lot of other folks.
Now days, if I wasn't so into Samplitude, I would consider SAW again, since the owner saw the error of his ways....but SAW is still a lot more expensive than Samplitude, and it's basically a one-man development/vision operation.

It's not just the price...I think Samplitude has had features that are only now starting to emerge in other apps. It's a GREAT audio *editing* program, and that's what I use it for mainly, editing and comping...but it's also a very good mixing app, and does plugs same as any other good DAW app. The only thing it needs a little more work on is the MIDI interface, but ProX is way better than it was in older versions, and it's almost as good as some other top MIDI apps...probably the next version will be on the same level in the MIDI department...just needs a little more tweaking.

FL for writing and Cubase for recording.

Now you got me interested in Samplitude.

I use Pyramix and Pro Tools daily, and Reaper for the occasional project or mix session.
Would recommend Reaper to anyone and everyone, amazing functionality for the $$

Reaper for me. Does everything I need it to and plenty more that I don't. I always hear about it's "limitations" with MIDI and maybe it's just my lack of experience with other DAWs for comparison, but I use a lot of MIDI and VSTi's, haven't found any limitations at all.

I ended up getting Logic Express 8 as an open box sale at Amazon ($52.00) to go with my mac mini. Handy to be able to use GarageBand as a sketchpad than move into Logic. Pretty cool what you can find poking around in Amazon's back corners.
