Which Clock To Buy?

I am considering a good work clock to sync everything to such as the Lucid Genx type.

I was wondering what other makes and models there are out there that are Better than the internal clocks of my 2 Delta 1010 cards, but wont break the bank. I'd prefer something under $1000 (preferably WELL under a grand ;>)

Oh! and 44.1 - 48K would do but would like up to 96k if possible.

If you can do with 44.1/48k, a used Aardvark AardSync II would be the ticket. That would be well under $1,000.

Otherwise, for not much more than $1,000, you could go with the Apogee Big Ben and have one of the better clocks around.

I see the Lucid GENx6 for $430US; it generates its own clock and has 6 BNC outs with 44.1 & 48K wordclock. I have a Lucid CLKx6 which is a distribution clock only: it needs a clock input. It has been trouble-free. There's a new model, called, predictably enough, the GENx6-96K that is similar to the first but adds 88.2 and 96K clock. It goes for $650US.

I use a GenX6 too. Probably the least expensive high end clock.

While the Aardsync II is indeed way better than the Delta 1010, I haven't found it to be an inch better than the Lucid. A while ago George Massenburg measured the two next to each other and the Lucid measured a bit better... does that equate to sound? Possibly... but FWIW I've found the sound of the Lucid to be more than acceptable, I haven't heard the Aardsync II [I actually will later today as the studio I'm working at is using one as their master clock... but as of right now I haven't worked with it]. Something tells me that they're probably pretty close in quality.

Thanks for the info! I feel from what I have read and what has been confirmed by you guys, it is certainly worth my while to get a better clock source. I think I'll start with the Lucid unless I find a super deal on a apogee.
