I hear he has a matched pair. :)
Oddly enough, while I appear to be a big advocate of Chinese mics, I don't own all that many - and use a lot fewer than appear on my equipment list.

The ones I do use a lot are the V69ME, the V77's, the V67's, the ECM8000's, and the 603's - most of the others just sit in their boxes.

The other "most used" mics are not Chinese and include: the Neumann TLM103, the AEA R-84's, the Oktava MC012's, various Sennheisers (421s, 504's, and 604's), the AKG D112, the Audix TR-40's,the ATM25, the Beyer M260 and the Soundstar MKII, Shures (SM-7's and 57's), and the T.H.E. small diaphragm cardioid.

Harvey, you are awesome. No need to explain yourself (though it's interesting to hear what mics you use).

Anyway, I think the 'dude is just messing around.

For some reason, I tend to be a little more defensive lately.

Harvey, what do you use the AEA R-84 for? How 'bout vocals or acoustic guitar? How 'bout through a Class A tube preamp?

Harvey, what do you use the V77 for? I'd didn't know you were so fond of that one. It's probably the one I hear least about. Han had a good thread going on it a while back. For some reason I keep thinking I'd like to have that one...

I'm thinking with a name like Gerst, Harvey was built in Deutschland, home of real men's mics. But he has learned the way of peace, and uses mics from just about everyplace, but he makes little mention of B.L.U.E. So Harvey, what's your read on Latvian mics?-Richie

Most of the time, it's thru the MCI board's preamps, but it's great on vocals and acoustic guitars. My son Alex is using them primarily as drum overheads right now.

I use it primarily for vocals, but it could be used in many situations. It's a pretty neutral sounding mic, so it works well for a lot of things where you might want a little less color.

Actually it's a corruption of our Russian name (something like Gecht). I really haven't listen to any of Skipper's mics, but he has earned a wonderful reputation in the pro community. They have very distinctive voicings and I imagine they can produce spectacular results when paired with the right source.

at least ECM8000 is from China , Superlux make it , Behringer buy it .

Even if this might be intentioned as just a fun thread, I think it's kinda disrespectful aganist Harvey Gerst who has done more to helpout in the microphone section of this board, than many, many others put together.

If you think differently than Harvey in any issue, feel free to speak. Everyones opinion is valid. But don't make the pro's leave this board because they get tired of nonsens following them.

Thanks.

Bah! No disrespect intended. Actually, it wasn't even anything to do with anyone USING chinese mics. Its just that with the chinese controversy, and Harvey being a well known figure, that I thought it would evoke some witty and funny comments. I thought the topic was funny myself.
Anyway...

I think some of you could turn anything into something disrespectful.

Tubedude: "My shoes are untied"

HR dude: "Wait a second... shoes, shoestring, string, tampons have a string, tampons, douche, Hey, that bastard Tubedude is calling me a douchebag, I better get all mad right now"

Some of you are too funny.

By the way Harvey, got your package, I'll be shipping to you before the end of the week is up.
Thanks dude...

Thanks for the input, Harvey.

Harvey, the Russian blood is a great one.

And who is Skipper in regards to the BLUE mics? Is he a designer?

I like my babybottle mic so far....it's something different from all my other mics, which is good.

Skipper Wise owns B.L.U.E. and really knows microphones.
