Where to Start?

HI guys

im frm HK (hong kong), its currently around 1 AM here. YAH, ive spent the whole night researching my ass off. and im 14, so i really need some advice.

OK, first of all, i have a budget of around 8000 HKD, which is around 1000 US; and me and my friends want to record our first demo at HOME.

I actually already bought Cubase SX, so that solves the problem of buying a digital recording program.

I am going to use a laptop to do my recording because the drumset is no where near my comp. Dont worry about how good my laptop is, its got 3Ghz, 1024MB ram, and 7200rpm hrd drive. However, one thing i need to know is that would i need to buy a new sound card, if so, why, and which one?

I will be needing 4 mic inputs (those things with 3 legs) so im wondering if theres anything i could just plug into my computer that has 4 mic inputs and guitar plugs OR do i have to buy a mixer?

So basically, i need to know what i need to buy that could provide:

- good sound quality recording
- 4 mic inputs
- guitar plugs

btw, does Cubase SX support all mixers or only MACKIE and cubase products?

i noticed you were having some troubles with this on the other post, so i will summarize it.

the delta 44 has only 1/4 inch ins. If you are going to use mics, you need preamps, which are in xlr form. So, you could just go with preamps. But, most mixers have built in pre amps. With a mixer, you can also have eq and be able to change volume and such. So unless you are going to buy a standalone outboard preamp, then yes, you need a mixer.

What I see is a thief costing those of us that buy software more money. Of course it goes hand in hand that first you steal something and that leads you to lying about it. You say " IM ONLY A KID WANTING SOME ADVICE" well stop chewing your finger nails wah wah ......

Crabmeat, fish... etc. have you ever been to Thailand? or Bali? you shld go there. they sell fake oakley eye glasses for the real price! they have streets FULL of fake stuff, are you going to report them to the police? are you going to grab a microphone and say "you guys r stealing..." and blab on about how they're wrong? NO, cuz the whole world is fake, everyone jsut wants to make a living. I mean what about Guitar designs, lets say the Les Paul by gibson, isnt it copy righted? Ive seen guitars by TOYAMA shaped exactly like the Les Paul model's. So cant you say that they have stolen the idea? But you know what, TOYAMA are still making guitars today. I know buying fakes r wrong, but apparently i wanted to try out a few different recording programs. i mean digidesign's demo is only valid for windows98, so i bought a fake fer that too. So when i know which program i like, i would definitely buy a real copy. I am not that stupid, cuz if i ever got a record deal, and they found out that i used fakes, it would just be embarrasing. Its just a matter of time and the money i have till i could get a real copy of Cubase.

and btw you r in no position to judge me, could u say you have never lied? And even if you dont do it much you arent anymore righteous than i am. You probably have fakes in your house too. so can you just leave me alone?

Regarding selling fake Oakley glasses, I am not in the sunglass business, so I'm not too concerned with bootleg sunglasses. I AM in the Software Development business, so I don't take too kindly to pirates! Additionally, the argument "everyone else is doing it" doesn't fly with me (or anyone with integrity/morals/etc...)
Good luck saving up for the stuff you'll need to get some recording done, I'm sure you'll see the error of your ways and want to pay for the stuff you use. I'm glad that the people who use the Software I develop pay for it, otherwise I wouldn't be able to eat or have a nice place to live.

And here is some help:

There is absolutely no need to steal sotware. Cubase SX is a piece of crap anyway. You can either get N-track. It costs $69, well within your so called $1000 budget. Or, you can get ProTools Free. http://www.digidesign.com/ptfree/ It doesn't cost ANYTHING.

So stop whining man. You don't need to steal software, and NO, everything out there is not fake, and the world is not full of liars and cheaters. Not even Hong Kong.
