Hello

Anyone know who is 'the man' (or 'the woman') in the UK for re-ribboning and servicing old ribbon mics like the RCA 44BX?

Any idea of UK price? I know in the US, it is about $85 for a re-ribbon.

Cheers

I don't know who does ribbon mics in the UK... perhaps you could check with the Coles people to see if they have anyone they could recommend for work on RCA's...

Here in the US I usually send my RCA's to Clarence Kane at ENAK Microphone Repair in New Jersey.

While the shipping will cost you a few quid... you can do a 'carnet' with customs in the UK that will help you avoid import tariffs when the unit comes back to you.

Best of luck.

And the contact info for Clarence Kane is......

Hey Fletcher,

Just out of curiosity, why do you prefer Clarence Kane over Stephan Sank for re-ribboning?

Thanks,
Tom

Anyone ever used Jerry L. Silvia? He has been offering me advice on a HMV/EMI ribbon mic, which he claims is similar to a 44BX, but maybe more like the 74 sonically?

He seems a decent guy and good value. $85 to re-ribbon the mic.

Tomcat,
Fletcher didn't really say he prefer Clarence Kane over Stephan Sank for re-ribboning did he? I think he just said he uses Clarence...... by the way, I understand Clarence use to be a mic technician for RCA too.

Hi DJL,

No, he didn't say he preferred Clarence over Stephan directly, but if he sends his stuff to Clarence rather than to Stephan, then he, by his actions, is saying he prefers his work, otherwise he would send it to Stephan; that's all. I am just curious why.

I've always heard that Stephan was the best ribbon mic guru around and was interested if there was a better one somewhere.

Tom
