I have someone who wants to record a Yoga instructional CD with music in the background.
Where is a good place to buy those cd's of music that can be leggally used for this type of thing, and what is it called exactly?

Thanks!

Your person needs to get permission in writing from the owners of those CD's to use their music. Your friend can also license tracks from music library houses.

However, I think the music will be better if your friend simply picks music he or she likes and then licenses the rights from the owner. A lot of pre-recorded library music is not very good. As long as your friend avoids the big name artists it should be inexpensive to license the music.

Good advice! I might tell her to look into finding local musicians willing to provide music just for a little exposure.

Right, she could put a little info on the CD booklet about the artists, like their website URL. In this day and age of the internet and slef-produced artists, she doesn't even necessarily need to look for local only artists. It would be easy to find artists pretty much anywhere by listening to their tracks on CDbaby, for example.

Just using CD Baby as an example, she could do a search for New Age music and probably come up with a bunch of tracks that would be appropriate. You can see how this would work by going to my CD Baby page:

https://www.cdbaby.com/cd/alby

Or you could do a larger New Age browse starting on this page:

https://www.cdbaby.com/style/newage

A name artist like Suzanne Ciani would probably want too much money for her tracks. But there are so many albums out there by artists that are not household names that I would think your friend could find some good stuff inexpensively. Each artist page has an email link I believe, so contacting the artist would be easy.
