where the Heck do i start?

ok so I have a small room... really small lol that i want to make into a lil nothing fancy studio its in my basement so concrete floors blocks walls that have been studded out with 2x4's now me and my dad are both in construction so i have access to plenty of tools and some extra supplys laying around what should i do to soundproof?? I dont have alot of money so something cheap... me and my dad were thinking so insulation but just lining the walls with 1.5'' thick beaded foam 4'x8' sheets what do you think?? also what about the floor and ceiling? thanks

a) foam is not a soundproofing product, it is a sound treatment, and not an effective one.

b) the type of foam you are thinking of is probably flammable and toxic when it burns. Refer to the Great White nightclub disaster.

c) soundproofing requires mass (layers of drywall) and decoupling. Refer to this site for rated assemblies:

The good news is since you are in construction, you will be able to do this yourself fairly cheaply. If you furred out the walls in an isolated manner, you may just need to insulate and cover with two layers of drywall. The ceiling is another matter and probably most important in your case. Also, you will need to use a proper door (exterior, solid core, weatherstripped) and provide for (quiet) ventilation.

d) once your room is built and isolated, you can worry about treatment. Rigid fiberglass insulation is more cost effective and space efficient than foam.
