Flailing up a storm.
Looking to pick up my first interface, been using a Fostex MR8 up until now and i am ready to upgrade. As a rule, what places do you like to do business with, for best price (for the equipment and shipping), selection, service etc?

What are the best places to get a good price that mmight not automatically pop up in a google search?

BTW, I am looking for an 8 in/4 to 8 out 24/96 interface, PCI/IUSB 2.0/Firewire are all a possibilty. Still looking for good suggestions.

I order through Guitar Center and force them to sell at the lowest price I can find on the internet. For example, ordered a SM7B through them. Their price was just over $400, but once I proved that I could get it for less elsewhere, that is the price I paid.

The easiest and best way, for me anyhow, is through online companies like Musiciansfriend or Music123. They'll usually have the lowest prices, and often offer some great insurance and warranties on equipment. Ebay is addictive if you don't mind used gear! :D

www.musiciansfriend.com
www.samash.com
www.americanmusicalsupply.com
www.sweetwater.com
www.nexfan.com
www.frozencpu.com
www.newegg.com
and everybody's favorite.......www.ebay.com!

Usually when I find something that I want, I check with damn near every place I can think of, then sit on eBay for a week or so and see if I can get a good deal there, if not, whoever has the cheapest price gets my business at that time. If it's a large order, I usually go through the ropes at multiple places and see what the totals will be including shipping then go with the lowest overal. With some of the bigger places, anything over 99.99 is free shipping so I usually wait until I atleast need 99.99 worth of crap and order.

That's a great list and another I'll add is 8th Street Music. I've ordered a couple of things from them and was happy with the prices I got from them. They were also very helpful when I called with questions.

I recently placed an order through www.bananas.com, the item I wanted is on backorder, as it is everywhere else too, so I can't comment yet on their service, but they seem to be up to par with everyone else.

Meet Reps for companies direct if you can, Thats what i do, I usually end up paying cost for most things (I just got a schecter Studio 6 listed at around $1000 for $500 even) and you get comped software if you know the right people (MOTU and Propellerheads :))

Otherwise, Go to guitar center and fight like hell for the lowest possible price. Remeber they generally have to clear 15% GP (Gross Profit) on anything, guitar markups are anywhere from 50-65% marckup from cost, audio gear is usually only 20-30% markup from cost so look at the price, check the math then fight like a mother f---- to get the price down, Sometimes theylll just drop it for you though

Thanks for the sources and suggestions. No Guitar center neear me in Vermont, but a few of the online retailers linked above are new to me, I appreciate the help.

www.fullcompass.com

I have never found anyone cheaper on anything I've shopped for*.
You gotta call for pricing though....

*~ I did notice that Musicians Friend or American Musical Supply was selling Delta 1010lt's for around $10 more than I paid and they came with a mic... don't remember but I think it was a large condensor....hell for $10 ya can't go wrong!!!

Two places that I've gotten the best prices from are:

www.musiciansbuy.com
-got an unbelievable deal on some Wharfedales through these guys, $159 for the pair.

www.scitscat.com
-I came across this guy through ebay, Scott's his name, really good guy and has good deals. I purchased an M-audio 1814 through him last year, which I'm getting ready to sell and get two Firepods. As of right now, he's beating sweetwater, full compass and all other online dealers. Give him a shout.
