Where do I start???!!!

OK.... I'm looking for something simple... I want to record, just me(vocals) and my acoustic guitar - I have a mic and a pick up, a computer (200 mhz). I only need to record the mic and the guitar...
So, how do I do it? What do I need... I'm assuming that digital, on the computer, is best/cheapest? Other options? Tape? Do I have to buy a sound card? A mixer or something to connect the mic/pickup to the computer? Software?

Totally ignorant on this... all help will be appreciated.

Download the demo version of n-Track - cool free recording software. If you want the full blown version it is about 50 diabloes. Many computers have sound cards in them, check yours out to see if it does.

OK, thanks.... and what about...

Thank you! I'll look for n-track. I do have a sound card, just whatever came with the machine - will that do? And what about inputs.... there is just the one, 1/8 plug on the card... do I need a mixer or something to be able to input say a mic and pick up?

Can I then record, edit, maybe do some simple effects with n-track?
