Hi! Thanks for reading this

I want to buy my new home recording equipment which consists of:

AKG c214
Apogee ONE
Cable

The thing is I don't want to buy from online stores like Amazon or Musician's Friend, (unless they accept COD but that's not the case, as I don't want to pay with a credit card). But the drawback is that the prices on those stores may be quite lower than the ones from other stores.

So where do you guys recommend me buying them?

The only stores I know I can buy this equipment is Guitar Center (although I don't think they have Akg c214 in stock now) or maybe Best Buy? But the price is like $100 higher than on Amazon (and Musician's Friend also, which is currently $400, but they can match another US dealer price even with 10% less also)

I can buy Apogee ONE is any Apple Store, and the price there is the same as in Amazon or musician friend. So that's not a problem

My question is if there might be any physical store where I can buy AKG 214 + a cable, that has it in stock and that can match the prices of for eg. Amazon

Thank you very much! sorry if I didn't explain myself quite properly

Why no credit card? Online is usually the best bet for pricing, though GC will match any online price. Just order it. :)

Three of the last GC stores that I've been in have had the 214 in stock and on display.

All Musicians Friend is is GC's mail order division. They're the same company so GC will absolutely match any price MF gives ya.

Thank you for your answers!

Guess I'll have to take Amazon's ad to a GC store. Thanks!

by the way, GC says "Just bring in that dealer's ad". Do I have to print Amazon's page?

www . amazon . com /AKG-C214-Large-Diaphragm-Condenser/dp/B001AM5PS4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357331161&sr=8-1&keywords=akg+c214

Lol today in the morning it was $299 and now it's $349! haha

It's best to print the ad just for that reason.

What they do anyways is look it up on line in the store when your there. You only have to supply them with the company's name that you had seen the sale price.

funny thing is ..... All of the equipments prices in the US are somewhat regulated to within $20. or so by the manufacturers/distributors plus the retailers want to make as much as possible in their slim profit margin. (they can make more profit in the purchase/resale market.
Plus when some company goes renegade and undersells everyone else by a lot. Everyone knows about it yet you have to play this silly game of ... if you don't tell me the lowest published sale price to match, I am not going to tell you about it.

Thank you !!

I'll print Amazon's ad just in case

And yes arcaxis! Thank you very much for that link! Gonna stick to that plan first, hoping it keeps staying at $300 and I will buy it there!
Thank you very very much!

I'm gonna be in NY soon, the last week of January so I was wondering if there is any possibility for me to "reserve" the product and print something, so when I get there I can have it for the price I reserved it (in case it goes $100 up when I arrive there like in the other stores)

I don't know if I explained myself well, and I don't even know if that is possible but thought I could ask!

you're kinda asking the wrong people huh? How could it be even remotely possible that folks in this forum could answer you about the policies of a store somewhere?
The ONLY guys that can tell you that are the guys at the store you're planning on visiting.
You need to call them and ask them as not a single answer you get here will have any meaning at all.
"But the guys at HR said you'd hold it for me" won't get you anything.

you're right. Just thought maybe some of you have had that experienced or something

Thanks

well, it still wouldn't really be something you could count on.
But my guess would be that they would be willing to hold it for you. Most stores are anxious to sell stuff.
Personally, if it were me, I'd get on the phone immediately after reading this post, call the place .... tell them what price/ad you have and that you would rather buy in person than over the 'net ...... tell them you don't like online retailers and prefer brick and mortar stores (that'll make them like you right there) ...... tell them when you're coming and would they save one for you?
I'm betting that they'll say, "Sure!"
Let us know.

The thing is that it's pretty impossible for me to send a check or call them as I live in another country. But I'm going to USA soon, so that's why..

I'm going to send them an email and see what they reply to me.

Thanks again!

edited: Just send them an email. I don't think I'll get a reply till a business day, but as soons as I get it I'll let you know their answer.

B&H answered me and told me that

B&H will allow customers to pre-pay orders for pickup in our retail store.

Therefore, I hope it remains with that price till I get there!

If you happen to be swinging through New Hampshire on your trip to the USoA there is absolutely no sales tax here. ;) There is a Guitar Center in Nashua with that microphone in stock.

Where are you located now?

Yeah no special trip to New Hampshire, that's for sure.

If I figured out right, NYC and state sales tax on $299 comes to about $26.53 (8.875%). Unless he/she is headed to Boston or other parts east, wouldn't gas/travel costs possibly exceed the sales tax to make the trip to NH and then back to NYC?:) Plus B&H might have useful help versus the other option:rolleyes:

Below is a screenshot of one of the mic display cases at B&H from the interactive store tour.....

Am seeing every microphone but the 214 in that case!

Tough one to call. But mine are all in one location, Arcaxis. :thumbs up:
