Where can I ask a very detailed mobo/ps question?

Do any of you guys know a forum somewhere that I could find an answer to this?

I have a Compaq DeskproEN733. The system board on this is designed to use a "propriatary" power supply. The difference I can see is that the mobo connector on a standard ATX power supply is 2 rows to small for the connector on this board. If a newer, P4 compatible power supply is used, it LOOKS like I could use the extra connector and get the proper fit of connectors by using those two connectors from the power supply. I DON'T know about voltage, though. The other thing about the Compaq power supply is that it is smaller in size than your standard ATX ps.

My goal is to rig a 400W power supply (the Compaq one is only 250W) and transfer the board to a rack-mount PC case so I have room, and power connectors, for everything I need. I really, really like this board, and am trying to keep it.

Have you tried the Compaq site? They have a message forum, and a place to ask questions. If you haven't, I would just call them up and ask their support about a 400W power supply for the thing. Especially if it's really proprietary like you mentioned. Someone there should be able to give you the info you need. Might cost you more to buy from them, but better than messing up the mobo that you really like if you aren't sure.

I wish you luck, but odds are you will have to keep your Compaq mb in you Compaq case. Compaq works very hard to ensure their products are indeed propriatary.

You ain't kiddin'!!! I had an older Compaq Presario AMD K6-2/380 and it wouldnt recognize more than the first 8 gigs of my new 20 gig hard drive. Compaq tech support told me I couldnt make the upgrade work because the original hard drive was made for that computer or some crap like that.

Well, I looked on the motherboard. turned out to be a gigabyte board. Went to the Gigabyte website, downloaded the latest bios, flash the rom on the mb, and it worked like a charm. Of course, it doesn't say "Compaq" when it boots up any more, and the original install cd-rom wont work either, but so what!!

By the way, just so my post isn't a bunch of rambling, i have a possible suggestion:

How about just running 2 power supplies, and using one to just power the drives, and use the Compaq just for the motherboard?
