Hi, I watched ALL of the how-to videos on Reaper and they were great but they were mostly about recording and mixing audio.

Where are the MIDI instruments that I can drag into these tracks so that I can lay tracks down with my brand new Axion 49! :) I see FX like compression and EQ, but where are the different synths, guitars, strings, etc.?

Also, if I download MIDI plug ins, how do I file them into Reaper so that the software can recognize them as a choice?

Thanks for your time.

First you have to go to Reaper's settings and point the VST path to your existing folders where you have VSTi instruments. That is, assuming you actually have any. I'm not sure why you would assume that Reaper would come with its own, but that is the impression I am getting from your post...

Anyway, after they are detected, they will appear in FX for each track. FX and instruments are accessed the same way.

Thank you

Are those the only kind of MIDI instrument plugins I can use with Reaper?

I downloaded something called a Crystal Synth plug in and the file name was: Crystal.dll

Should this file go in the folder you mentioned too? Or is that a different kind of plug in?

Thanks, for the advice.

Yeah I use Crystal too. Just copy the dll into the REAPER/Plugins/FX folder and you should be good.
