ok, i get every sound out of my cakewalk homestudio except for those i want!!! the various midi instruments work (roland gs, yamaha xg, the dxi plugins) but just not the drum sounds!!! i have millions of piano settings but just that one crappy standard drum set with that over-reverbed snare. well, and that p#§$6$ me off!!!! for the drums are the most important thing to me. so, here is my question: does it have anything to do with my soundcard? (soundblaster 128, dont worry i'll get a new one) or is it just a software related problem? if it is the second, how do the settings have to look?! i'm also using a midikeyboard via usb, if thats of any difference, already thanks a lot for you guys help, cheers, Paradisebunny³

Ditch the soundcard...no one can make proper music with a soundblaster 128... :D

And don't be afraid to spend some money on your new soundcard!

Set the MIDI Channel to 10.

sorry moskus, but I'll suggest you avoid this. In fact, I think this is the trouble. I found in most case, if you use channel 10 for soundfont drums WITHOUT Livesynth pro (that means you use AudioHQ, and attach SF2 like usual in Cakewalk) with Creative's card, it tends to call the GM basic drum kit somehow. Since most GM in mind cards assigned ch 10 for drums, they don't let you use this channel to be used for kits other than canned GM. What if you change to say 9, or 8 ?

I say you're wrong, James.

I'd definentaly set the Channel to 10. Liquidus doesen't use a SB Live! or Audigy (and the 128 doesen't support soundfonts). And remember, Channel 10 is the default channel for drums (as you know). I had a lot of problems setting up drums on my Korg NX5R, before I knew that I should choose Channel 10... :)

You have access to over 10 drum kits with the Roland VSC DXi that comes with HS2002, but the General MIDI spec only allows drums to be played through channel 10.

I suggest you get a new sound card because the latency on a SB 128 will be unbearable.
