when they say first in the pedal chain, does first start from the Guitar or Amp?

When you are setting up pedals, I know to put the Wah generally first and Delays generally last, but weres first start? From the Amp or from the Guitar?
Is it.......


AMP > First pedal > Second > Guitar.

Or do they consider it...

Guitar > First Pedal > 2nd Pedal > Amp

Thakns Track Rat, Thats exactly what I told my friend, but he swore up and down that it was the other way around, and it threw my head for a loop. So if I have you correctly, it is

Guitar > First pedal > 2nd Pedal > and so on > Amp

When in doubt, common sense usually helps.

The signal flows from the guitar towards the amp, so "first" would logically be the first device that the signal encounters coming from the guitar...
