When does playback usually stop?

Hi guys,

here´s something I do not quite understand: When I play back a midi track and I got no DXi in my project, playback stops after the last midi note has been played, but before the end of the clip has been reached. As soon as I insert a DXi, playback continues until the end of the clip, even if there are no further notes to be played. Is this on purpose, I mean is there any specific reason for that?
 
although i only fool around with DXi now and then I see the same thing happen with midi and audio.
 
Well, seems like it´s a coincidence, then. A minor bug maybe without any severe consequences.
