When does conversion START?

Hi. I have a question about conversion when sampling in hardware. Example: I make a track on an MV-8800 and send the output to the input of say an ASR-10 and the output of the ASR-10 to my interface to use the ASR as a filter. The question is will it affect the sound just running through it? OR do I actually have to sample it, then replay/record the sample into my DAW to actually get the sound of the ASR-10's converters? Thanks.
