If I build or have have built for me a computer, is it going to be difficult to set up when powered on? do I need to know about drivers and other software installation methods and stuff like that or will I be able to power it up and pop the windows xp cd in and it'll be ready to go? It seems that a custom computer is the wisest thing from a hardware perspective but I don't want to hit a wall once it's put together.

Well, as someone who has built close to a hundred computers, the short answer is no it won't be difficult, it should be a piece of cake. If everything hardware-wise is right, and it boots up that is. If you have ever upgraded your os, this will be about the same.

....as far as drivers go...thats a post xp install....the xp cd loads all the hoopla so the even the 3.5 floppy A: drive isnt needed

Do your homework, make sure you buy quality parts, and that there are no blatant hardware compatibility problems. Building computers these days is a snap if you if you just do a little research ahead of time. There are tons of sites that can help you learn the ins and outs, use them.

Have you ever reformated and started clean before? It's the same deal.
