Here's another new song mix - this one has a LOT of stuff happening... whaddya think? We're gonna re-record the vox at some point, I think but so far, I think this mix is coming along really well.

One thing - I really want to get the drums (kick and crashes) to pump a la Helter Skelter-style but I can't seem to make it happen. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Loving the vocals!

Who's the singer? I really enjoyed this thanks. I think this mix is coming along well.

What compression did ya use on the kick?

If I recall, Helter Skelter's kick is panned to the right.

I used Variety of Sound's Density MKII comp on the kick to smash the hell out of it and then used Ferric TDS to kind of put some "air" around the whole kit. I'm not looking to emulate the Beatles' use of panning but rather I'd like to get the kick to pump in time with the music.

Have ya tried side-chaining? Parallel compression?

Frig. Side-chaining never seems to work for me (I've got to be doing something wrong) and I've only just recently learned about parallel compression. Have you got any good links that you can share with me that can help me understand how to utilize these techniques? Maybe a short walk-thru or something?

I thought this was cool. Solid musicianship. Everything has a nice tone to my ear.

I agree the vocals could either come up a bit or be leveled out a bit. Words here and there get lost.

Love the bass part and the bass tone.

Wow. Makes you think, what if Jamiroquai were good! lol.
Really enjoyed this, especially the bass+vocals. You could maybe notch the vocals up a little bit; They're worth showing off.

The singing in the chorus definitely makes me think of Jamiroquai but musically, I think that band is pretty far away from what we're doing. The bass took a lot of work to get it to sound this way. I doubled the original track, high-passed the crap out of it, gave it a bit of dirt, re-combined the two tracks, then reamped it thru a SansAmp ParaDriver into my Art DMPA Gold and back into my DAW.

Thanks for the tips and good words, everybody. I bumped the vox up 1.5db on the final version. I think I'll call this tune COMPLETED! :D

Great Bass line and vocals. Along with being mixed well its a good tune :listeningmusic:
