with Lexicon Core II? It's all over the web for 199 bucks? Is it junk?

I just spoke today with a fellow guitar player, who's opinion I trust, about the same thing. A Lexicon Core ii 24-bit internal card, external box for pluging, 1/4"/ XLR/ RCA. interface is either parallel, or scsi by the look on the front of Daddy's junky Music catalog.(current as of 4/20/01 ) I am a novice when it comes to the right gear for any "Digital" recording. I have been looking around at the alternatives, at around a $500.00 budget, which is all I personally can afford in my quest to recording my own sounds.Luckily,I do have several years of computer experience, which sort of makes that part of it a little easier. The rest of it is very confusing. This friend of mine said that in his 35+years of dealing with the music business, the name lexicon means nothing but the best quality. Comming from him, its an opinion I take with a grain of salt, due to the fact that dennis is not totally up on digital recording. He does have a web site tho, related to his newly opened guitar shop. It is www.adirondackguitar.com . Go see the site, and tell him Steve sent ya.!!There is another guy who is part of another area guitar shop, their web is : www.parkwaymusic.com .

Got a buddy that works at MARS and he was saying that more than half the people that buy that card return or sell it. Answer: Yes its kinda junky

Godiva makes soem of the best chocolates on the planet, they are known for their quality. Despite their reputation, I wouldn't buy a computer plug in card from them. Lexicon is known for making some of the best outboard effects boxes on the planet. They are known for the quality of their reverbs. Knowing how to design high quality reverb algorithms makes them about as much an expert on computer plug in cards as Godiva.
OK, I'm probably exagerating a litle, but Lexicons expertise is not in PC peripherals. Designing DSP based effects units only barely equips you to understand the computer plug-in card market. They may make a fine product, but I wouldn't assume they do just because they make some of the best effects units.
