I don't know what its called, but I think you will know what I am talking about. Has anyone heard any more about this new device that is supposed to be availabe from Alesis that is some sort of a cradle that will allow transfer of tracks to a computer once it has been recorded on the HD24's hard drive?

With this device it seems to me that all the bases would be covered in this type of set up:

1. Do all tracking with an analog 8 buss connected
to an HD24.

2. Transfer the above to a computer for editing, as
required.
Seems to me this would be a great setup, providing the spontinaity that only an analog board can provide, plus in depth editing when and only when its required.

What do you think? I know a lot of you guys seem to prefer tracking with analog.

What do you mean by "tracking with analog"???

Tracking with analog would indicate tracks are being recorded to an analog recording format.... the HD24 is a digital recording format....

And it isnt hard to transfer tracks to a computer for editing -- that's what the digital outs on the HD24 are for..!!

I think he means tracking "analog" style..The recording machine is dig. but you use a analog approch..What he seems to mean also is "tracking with analog"..Board..I've broken the code;) LOL

Thanks for the reply... What I meant was recording using an analog board, going into the analog inputs of the HD24. This is what I am doing now with Adat. I am still mixing down to DAT. Computer Recording and editing is still new to me. I do have cool edit pro that I some times use to edit the final mix.

The device that I am refering to is supposed to be some type of cradle that will take the HD's hard drive( caddy and all) and transfer it to a computer(all of this while the drive is outside the recorder).

I have heard about that "cradle" ..I think the Tascam will do something similar{Protools compatible}.Benifit would be that there is no transfer same HD.New Creature what have you heard on its date of release ect. Thanks for any info

it's made by alesis , and called a firewall-wire i forget, but i have seen the ads for the piece

And if using FTP is too slow for your tastes, Alesis is working on a quicker way to move files to your PC. The manufacturer is currently beta testing new PC software and an external drive bay that would allow drive swapping. When it is time to transfer, just pull your drive from the HD24 and plug it into your PC. It needs to be pointed out that the HD24 drive being placed into a PC will not be the main system drive but a supplemental drive.

This is paragraph from a review on the HD24.

Alesis is RETARDED. im sorry but 10megabit ethernet? what the hell planet are they on. that was standard about 10 years ago in networks. 100megabit has been standard fare on any computer NICs for atleast 5 or 6 years. they must have saved negligibly a dollar per HD24... but the loss to the end user is huge.

it takes 10 times longer to transfer a gigabyte worth of data on the HD24 than should be necessary.
