What's this audio view called?

Yep - Simple waveform. Not a DAW on the planet that won't show you that...

Yes, but he's looking for a VST. I don't know of any DAW VST's, since VST's need a DAW to host them.

Do you want to do audio editing, or are you looking for an audio analyst type program?

As has been said, there's no such thing as a VST that shows a waveform display because waveform displays are displayed already in their host editor.

I don't think the OP is actually looking for a VST, I think that was a slip of the tongue. I think he's looking for a free editor that shows multiple display types, but mainly the waveform display.

In that case, check out Audacity. It's free, it's main display and editing screen is a waveform display, and it also offers a multi-track spectrogram display option.

G.

Yeah, my bad. I don't need a VST anymore, I wanted to see 'STREAMING waveform data' incoming into my DAW, like when I plug my guitar in or something.

It comes out on my limiter VST, but as... I dunno what it's called, it's just straight bars instead. But I've learned to read them the same way, so it's fine. I just needed to know the DB meters.

Most DAW's have an option to create the waveform as you record. What DAW are you using?
