Hey,

I just purchased my first mac moving from windows based machines, and even though im loving my whole new set up, the only thing confusing me really is the software side of things... Basically i used to use all these other pieces of software, and now i dont know if it exists on Mac or what...

I was wondering if someone could tell me if the following pieces of software i am wanting to buy exist on Mac and if not a suitable equivalent? I know it may sound stupid, but i dont really have any idea...

Cool Edit Pro?

SoundForge (Not Sony soundforge..)

Acid Pro

Those are the main ones really...I appreciate any help you can give :)

Thanks!!!

i don't know a lot about the programs available on mac or what their pc equivalents would be but some of the more popular ones i have heard of are:

logic: , it has it all.
pro tools: nuff said
band in a box:
digital performer: made by MOTU i think.

Logic is a beautiful piece of software, especially the Pro version, but the Express version is quite adequate.

Garageband 2, which should have come free with your new Mac even provides multitrack recording, MIDI scoring, software instruments, amp simulators, Apple Loops, and much more, and you could easily get started with that.

There's also Cubase, which is for PC & Mac.

I'm a DP guy. Have been ever since I dumped its predecessor (which will remain nameless to protect the guilty). Fairly solid program. Very occasional crashes, but pretty infrequent.

For quick 2-track slice and dice editing, I'd recommend also having Sound Studio around. I think it's something like $35 shareware.... I forget. Good for trimming the ends and stuff. Either that or Audacity (GPL, free). Does most of the stuff as SS does, but the UI is a lot clumsier.

I dont know all the specifics of it but as blasphemous as it sounds you could get a windows emulator to run those programs on your mac if you have to. It has been along time since I used one on an older mac and i didn't have to much luck so take this advice for what its worth

I believe Adobe Audition is the new version of Cool Edit.
