Under the pulldown-menu -Options -Audio, under the general tab, you can specify the 'audio driver bit depth' and the 'file bit depth'. Does anyone know the difference between these two?
When I plan to record something new, I usually set the sampling rate to 48,000 Hz and the file bit depth to 24 bit (the higher, the better, is it not?). But when I set the audio driver bit depth to anything other than 16 bit, my soundcard (SBlivePlatinum) doesn't support it. That's ok by me, but then I still don't know what that is. Anyone?

Your are given these options so cakewalk can be used with all types of soundcards and gear. Although, as you are well aware, the sblive does not have 24-bit capabilites, it is still a good all around card. The idea behind 24 bit is, to record at this rate and then convert to 16 bit when finalising. All cd's, mp3's, etc. are 16 bit.
